IMAGES1:

(Online images from the National Library of Australia's Pictorial Collection)

IMAGES1 gives access to over 20,000 historical and contemporary Australian images including paintings, drawings, objects, photographs and rare prints held in the Pictorial Section of the National Library of Australia (Canberra, ACT 2600 Australia). IMAGES1 also provides access to pictures of the exploration of New Zealand and the Pacific. So far, IMAGES1 only contains a small proportion of the total Pictorial Collection, but in the twelve months from July 1998 to June 1999, we added over 4,000 images. The images include pictures of developing cities (Sydney and Melbourne in particular), landscapes, portraits and themes such as shipping.

Every image has been indexed (i.e., catalogued) so searching for the picture you want by title, artist or subject is quick and easy. You may print out the full record with a thumbnail of the image, or if you double click on the thumbnail, you enlarge the picture providing greater detail and clarity.

Further information, including details on how to order reproductions, is available online through the National Library's Home Page (at http://www.nla.gov.au) or by emailing [email protected].
