"In late 2007, the number of publishers releasing articles one-by-one had increased substantially, and many other publishers were considering doing so. Because there were no standards, abstracting and indexing services were encountering a variety of issues that made it difficult for them to index and process the articles. When NFAIS held a members-only meeting on the subject, nearly fifty people attended. The consensus was that a Working Group should be formed to recommend Best Practices that might evolve into industry practice."

A Status Report on JPEG 2000 Implementation for Still Images: The UConn Survey, by David Lowe and Michael J. Bennett, University of Connecticut - Storrs.
"JPEG 2000 is the product of thorough efforts toward an open standard by experts in the imaging field. With its key components for still images published officially by the ISO/IEC by 2002, it has been solidly stable for several years now, yet its adoption has been considered tenuous enough to cause imaging software developers to question the need for continued support. Digital archiving and preservation professionals must rely on solid standards, so in the fall of 2008 the authors undertook a survey among implementers (and potential implementers) to capture a snapshot of JPEG 2000's status, with an eye toward gauging its perception within this community."

Dispelling myths about e-books with empirical evidence (Summary Report), Caren Milloy, Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) E-books Project Manager, March 2009.
"During the last two years, the JISC national e-books observatory has collaborated with universities in the UK, gathering real time evidence on how course text e-books are actually used by students and teachers. The project commenced in 2007 with the licensing of 36 course text e-books for students on business management, media studies, engineering and medicine courses. These e-books were selected by the higher education community and made available free of charge to all users in UK higher education. 127 universities, 76% of all higher education, participated in the project and worked with JISC Collections and CIBER at University College London on the deep log analysis study." "The Digital Curation Centre (DCC) is working to identify and share expertise and best practices regarding the creation, curation, and reuse of digital information over time. A key objective for achieving this goal is the creation and maintenance of the DCC Digital Curation Manual. The Digital Curation Manual is intended to be a community-driven resource – from the selection of instalment topics through to authorship and peer review. Individual instalments are authored by leading experts in the field and cover a range of issues relating to digital curation. The Digital Curation Manual is designed to assist data creators, curators and re-users to better understand the challenges they face and the roles they play in creating, managing and preserving their digital information over time. "Proliferation of database-driven web sites has brought upon a plethora of information access and dissemination applications.
