  • Policy guidelines for the development and promotion of open access, by Alma Swan, UNESCO, Paris, 2012.

"UNESCO issued this publication to demystify the concept of Open Access (OA) and to provide concrete steps on putting relevant policies in place....This publication will serve the needs of OA policy development at the government, institutional and funding agency level. The overall objective of the Policy Guidelines is to promote Open Access in Member States by facilitating understanding of all relevant issues related to Open Access."

  • Younger Americans' Reading and Library Habits, by Kathryn Zickuhr, Lee Rainie, Kristen Purcell, Mary Madden and Joanna Brenner, Pew Internet & American Life Project, October 2012.

"The Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project has taken a special look at readers between the ages of 16 and 29 because interest in them is especially high in the library world and the publishing world. This report examines how they encounter and consume books in different formats. It flows out of a larger effort to assess the reading habits of all Americans ages 16 and older as e-books change the reading landscape and the borrowing services of libraries."

  • Benefits from Research Data Management in Universities for Industry and Not-for-Profit Research Partners, N. Beagrie and C. Pink, 2012, Charles Beagrie Ltd and University of Bath.

"As part of the Research360 project at the University of Bath, the data management implications, challenges and benefits associated with Faculty-Industry and Faculty-Not-for-Profit research collaborations are being examined. As part of this work, a summary list of stakeholder benefits that can arise from research data management in these collaborations has been developed. This list is now being shared with other universities and their research partners in the hope that the generic list can be used as a brain-storming tool and assist in articulating benefits for selected stakeholders from research data management. Users can sharpen these short generic expressions of benefits into more focused value propositions for specific stakeholder audiences as required. Those interested in applying KRDS benefits analysis for stakeholders in research data preservation and curation as well as research data management will also find it of interest."

  • Research Library Services for Graduate Students, Lucinda Covert-Vail and Scott Collard, New York University, Assoiation of Research Libraries, 2012.

"The report proposes that the growing number, and heterogeneity, of graduate students and programs presents opportunities for research libraries to provide segmented services targeted for students at different stages of their academic and demographic life-cycle. Through their interviews, Covert-Vail and Collard found an enthusiasm for a broad range of new services, from advanced data manipulation and visualization to softer skills-based instruction in time management and writer's block. They also report that new configurations of library space, housing aggregated services into research or scholarly commons, for example, can both create and leverage collaborations within the larger institution."
